2004 NYFCC PREDICTIONS

7/12 [58%] -- Not that bad (better than either the NBR or LAFCA predix) Sideways sure is making a name for itself, isn't it ? -- It's just about won it all !! -- Being the critical darling of the season, I have to wonder, will it make it to Oscar morning (like Lost in Translation) or be left hanging in the wind (like Far From Heaven) ??? Next up (prediction wise) will be The National Society of Film Critics (sometime around the first of the year) - I'll let all those other critics circles come and go (although they will be listed here) and concentrate on My Oscar Pages and writing my reviews - coming up soon: Hotel Rwanda; The Aviator; Kinsey (finally); A Very Long Engagement; House of Flying Daggers and The Sea Inside... Best Picture of 2004 Prediction: Sideways runner-up: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Actual Winner: Sideways Batting 1000 so far... Best Director Prediction: Alexander Payne for Sideways runner-up: Martin Scorsese for The Aviator Actual Winner: Clint Eastwood, Million Dollar Baby No real surprise... Best Actor Prediction: Paul Giamatti in Sideways runner-up: Jamie Foxx in Ray Actual Winner: Paul Giamatti, Sideways This film is just racking up the accolades, eh ? Best Actress Prediction: Laura Dern in We Don't Live Here Anymore runner-up: Catalina Sandino Moreno in Maria Full of Grace Actual Winner: Imelda Staunton, Vera Drake Actually my favourite female performance of the year... Best Supporting Actor Prediction: Thomas Haden Church in Sideways runner-up: David Carradine in Kill Bill, Volume 2 Actual Winner: Clive Owen, Closer It's about time someone other than Church wins this slot... Best Supporting Actress Prediction: Virginia Madsen in Sideways runner-up: Natalie Portman in Closer Actual Winner: Virgina Madsen, Sideways Doing much better here than in my previous prediction attempts... Best Screenplay Prediction: Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind runner-up: Sideways Actual Winners: Alexander Payne & Jim Taylor, Sideways Well, I almost got this one right... Best Foreign Film Prediction: Bad Education runner-up: The Five Obstructions Actual Winner: Bad Education (Pedro Almadovar, Spain) It's about time it gets recognized..! Best Animated Film Prediction: The Incredibles runner-up: Gost in the Shell 2: Innocence Actual Winner: The Incredibles Was there another animated movie out this year..? Best Documentary Prediction: Fahrenheit 9/11 runner-up: Born into Brothels Actual Winner: Fahrenheit 9/11 Another one right, er left I mean, yeah way over to the Left... Best Cinematography Prediction: Collateral runner-up: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Actual Winner: Hero Well, I blew that, but I do agree it is a beautifully filmed movie...
