4/5 NOMINATION PREDICTION RATE - even if it is a six-way race
|
who should win:
Closer is the best film of the bunch, not that it has a chance of winning, but as long as it's not Neverland, I'll be happy (I think I have an unhealthy hatred for that film)...
who will win:
The Aviator should start its Oscar run here, although Baby could sneak in...
|
and the Golden Globe goes to...
The Aviator, of course! Gee I wish I liked this film better than I did.

5/5 PERFECT NOMINATION PREDICTION RATE
|
who should win:
Sideways is the best comedy of the past several years, easy...
who will win:
Sideways should take this, and possibly begin their streak to take down The Aviator come Oscar time (if Ray or one of the others win, Sideways chances to take the Oscar are probably over)...
|
and the Golden Globe goes to...
Sideways!! Like the hey-day of the seventies Auteur movement is back in full swing - does this mean Woody Allen's new film (Melinda and Melinda out in March) will be good (a thing Woody hasn't done in a while)??

|
who should win:
Imelda Staunton gives one of the most intensely tragic performances ever on film...
who will win:
It's down to Swank or Staunton (both have split the precurser awards about evenly), but unfortunately Swank probably has the slight edge (but I hope I'm wrong here), wouldn't it be fun to see Uma sneak in though...
|
and the Golden Globe goes to...
Hilary Swank ! I make all these comments about Hilary, but I do really like her (I thought she was fantasmical in Boys Don't Cry), but I am so dreading seeing her film - I hate sports movies and it looks so cliche'd up the whazoo (even though it is on over 200 Top Ten Lists) - I guess we'll see my reaction next week when I finally see it.

who should win:
Jeff Bridges..oh yeah, he's not nominated...how about Vincent Gallo (oops), uh, Gael Garcia Bernal...nope...um, let's see, how about Paul Bettany in Dogvil...okay, okay, let's go with Cheadle...
who will win:
Most say Depp or DiCrapio (yes I meant to spell it that way!), but I'm going to toss out Don Cheadle's name as an upset (there's gotta be at least one right?)...
|
and the Golden Globe goes to...
Leo...Sure, this may be Leo's best performance to date, but what exactly does that mean? I still can't take the guy seriously in the role, which was my main reason for not loving this film.

Kate or Annette...Annette or Kate...hmmm? Let's go with Annette, but as long as the Z-girl doesn't win, again...ugghh...
|
and the Golden Globe goes to...
The lovely and talented Annette Bening! I love that she plays an Actress who is supposedly over the edge of age and beauty (at 46) and she has never looked sexier!

Natalie Portman in Closer!! Two quick surprises (the first two awards of the night - see Best Supporting Actor too) and both happy surprises - Portman was my second choice here.

who will win:
Marty Scorsese, not due to The Aviator being that good (it isn't though everyone seems to think it is), but just because he's Marty Scorsese (Clint or Payne could sneak in though)...
|
and the Golden Globe goes to...
Clint Eastwood !! I've been thinking that the Oscar will come down to Eastwood or Scorsese (w/ payne as a spoiler)...Scorsese for a lifetime of never winning and eastwood (who won two Oscars in 1992 w/ Unforgiven) who might win for both Baby (which I haven't seen yet - shame on me) and Mystic river combined.

who will win:
Prob. The Aviator (although this could be Neverland's one win for the night)...
|
and the Golden Globe goes to...
The Aviator !! Not Scorsese's best film (and it will be a shame if he wins the Oscar for this film, when he never won for Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets etc.), and Shore's score was standard at best, but at least my mortal enemy (Finding Neverland) didn't win!!!

|
and the Golden Globe goes to...
The Sea Inside...this is not a bad film, Javier Bardem (as always) gives a stellar performance, but it just seemed so, so, oh so Oscarbaitary - Nowhere to the level of Daggers or A Very Long Engagement, but hey, no real surprise.
